SAMBAR POWDER
Ingredients:
Coriander Seed, Red Chilli, Cumin, Rice, Fenugreek, Bengal Gram Dal, Cinnamon, Curry Leaves.
Directions of Use:
(for a family of 4) 1. Cook 250-300 gms of Vegetables of your Choice with little Salt in 500 ml water and keep aside 2. Pressure cook 50 g (3 tbsp) of Toor dal in 500 ml water with 1 tsp of edible oil and a pinch of Turmeric powder 3.Soak 20 gm of tamarind fruit in ½ cup of hot water for 30 min and extract the juice 4.Add cooked vegetable, Tamarind extract. Salt to taste to the cooked dal and start boiling. 5. Add 2 tbsp (30g) of S.K.Sambar powder ground with Grated Coconut and little Jaggery (if desired). Boil for 8-10 minutes with stirring. 6. Add little hot water to the boiling Sambar if the consistency is thick. 7. Crackle ½ tsp Mustard, Curry leaves in ½ tbsp. hot oil and add to Sambar. 8. Garnish with chopped Coriander leaves and serve hot with Rice or Idli or Dosa or Vada.
